Nintendo DSi Handheld Console

The newly upgraded Nintendo DSi released today the 3rd April 2009 in the United Kingdom it’s current RRP £149.99 £139.99 is the third generation of the ever so popular handheld console.

This modification from previous models is that it’s 12% slimmer than the previous model the Nintendo DS Lite. Combined with two VGA 0.3 mega pixel cameras in-built, also has a larger screen with an extra 0.25 inches making the visible screen size of 3.25 inches compared to the previous models, hence it’s a little longer in length and they have also included a SD memory card slot for saving.

Apparently the device has more improved sound quality and they have replaced the sliding power button on the right-hand side of the console with a power button located at the bottom left-hand side of the touch screen.

One improvement I like the sound of is the soft reboot, where the power button now allows you to return to the menu and play a new game by hot swapping without having to shutdown the whole console every time. The DSi casing is covered in a new matte finish rather than its shiny predecessor, which showed up annoying fingerprints. Currently the only colours available at the moment are Black/White.

The console comes with five brightness levels and for a slimmer design Nintendo has removed the GBA slot from the front, however this obviously affects backward compatibility with games and accessories so beware you would be downgrading in this way. The specification of the system holds a CPU 133MHz, RAM 16MB, storage 256MB internal flash memory and wireless connectivity IEEE 802.11.

So does this warrant an upgrade from my previous model Nintendo DS Lite or is it too early to say yet. What’s you’re thoughts on the matter?

CCleaner UpdClient.exe,-279

ccleaner Receiving this error “CCleaner UpdClient.exe,-279 is an Invalid Default Icon”? Well here is a work around for this bug issue related to ZoneAlarm’s MailSafe default icon and using CCleaner to remove the registry entries.

Let me first explain the issue here -279 is the icon number associated with ZoneAlarm’s MailSafe default icon located in the registry as HKCR\ZAMailSafe\DefaultIcon.

The path point’s to:
C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\UpdClient.exe,-279.

Where in actual fact it should be pointing to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\UpdClient.exe,-279

So from reading articles on this issue seems like ZoneAlarm have relocated the folder for the updclient.exe file to WINDOWS\system32 folder most likely in this case they moved it for security purposes I reckon.  Here try this tweak so it stops it coming up in CCleaner’s Registry key entries good luck!

Tutorial Solution:

  • Create a dummy file in Notepad
  • with the same name UpdClient.exe,-279
  • place it in the C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm folder
  • the file does nothing, but it clears the message in CCleaner.
