Reset your Xbox 360 Display Settings
September 19th, 2008
Are you having issues with your Xbox 360 display settings on your TV and are using the Xbox 360 VGA cable?
A message saying “no video signal is received” this is since you changed to the higher resolution which your TV doesn’t support and you can’t seem to reset it back to default?
Well I was silly enough to have done just that and couldn’t get it back to the default settings so I managed to find this useful tutorial on the Microsoft site to be very helpful, good luck guys!
Instructions
To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these simple steps:
- Remove any discs from the disc tray
- Turn the console off
- Turn the console on
Note: If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.
Note: Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper left quadrant-light is on.
As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it’s OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.

Hello thanks for this info but still i cannot get it to work, what i did was i had an hdmi-dvi cable plugged in and i foolishly turned the ‘detect displays’ tab to disabled to now it doesn’t pick up my monitor.
I try the 3 step guide w/wireless controller and it doesn’t work, i have tried it at all stages and i can’t seem to make any progress.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
