CCleaner UpdClient.exe,-279

ccleaner Receiving this error “CCleaner UpdClient.exe,-279 is an Invalid Default Icon”? Well here is a work around for this bug issue related to ZoneAlarm’s MailSafe default icon and using CCleaner to remove the registry entries.

Let me first explain the issue here -279 is the icon number associated with ZoneAlarm’s MailSafe default icon located in the registry as HKCR\ZAMailSafe\DefaultIcon.

The path point’s to:
C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\UpdClient.exe,-279.

Where in actual fact it should be pointing to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\UpdClient.exe,-279

So from reading articles on this issue seems like ZoneAlarm have relocated the folder for the updclient.exe file to WINDOWS\system32 folder most likely in this case they moved it for security purposes I reckon.  Here try this tweak so it stops it coming up in CCleaner’s Registry key entries good luck!

Tutorial Solution:

  • Create a dummy file in Notepad
  • with the same name UpdClient.exe,-279
  • place it in the C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm folder
  • the file does nothing, but it clears the message in CCleaner.

Reset your Xbox 360 Display Settings

Xbox 360 Console Settings Are you having issues with your Xbox 360 display settings on your TV and are using the Xbox 360 VGA cable?

A message saying “no video signal is received” this is since you changed to the higher resolution which your TV doesn’t support and you can’t seem to reset it back to default?

Well I was silly enough to have done just that and couldn’t get it back to the default settings so I managed to find this useful tutorial on the Microsoft site to be very helpful, good luck guys!

Instructions

To reset the display settings of the Xbox 360 console to the default settings, follow these simple steps:

  1. Remove any discs from the disc tray
  2. Turn the console off
  3. Turn the console on

Note: If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn the console on by using the Xbox Guide button on the controller.

Note: Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller is the controller where the upper left quadrant-light is on.

As the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time. This causes the Xbox Dashboard to reset the display settings to the default settings and then automatically restarts the console. So it’s OK when the Xbox 360 console restarts.

No matter how many times you do this it still keeps coming up? Well I was having this same issue today when I recently updated to Zone Alarm’s newer software update.  What I discovered was if you do the following method below it seems to solve the issue for the time being, so hope this helps folks!

Instructions

  • Boot the PC into Safe Mode (Press F8 after the beep when booting)
  • Search for the folder (C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs)
  • Delete any files ending in .tmp .ldb or .rdb
  • Reboot the PC
