This project was yet another subset project, while working at the Scottish Police College. I was asked to submit a prototype navigation system to be implemented in the CEPOL site.

The DiamondMax Maxtor range are excellent hard disk drives never had any problem with them. This drive was purchased on 30th July 2004 at a RTP of £67.95.
I used to own an IBM Deskstar hard drive, where I had enountered a problem with a bad cluster and was never able to repair the drive.
Due to this experience I read reviews and heard Maxtor drives were good and reliable so I decided to go for them. I first bought the Maxtor 80GB ATA drive to replace my failed IBM 40GB HDD.
I then realised I needed an additonal drive for more storage for video, multimedia projects, images, sound etc. So I then went for the Maxtor 200GB SATA. Overall I think Maxtor drives are great never had a bad comment about them, only wish I had two larger drives to set them up as RAID.

A good reliable multi-format burner in its time, obviously it's been knocked off the market now with the newer dual layer format DVD writers. I purchased this drive when it was relatively new on the 18th May 2004 for £55.55 and shockingly the price has dropped dramatically.
It writes at 4x although claims to write at 8x, which I know it can and is just a case of flashing the drive with the recent firmware upgrade. Although I am little hasty to do that cause if its done incorrect it can knacker the drive so I have been holding off. I may eventually get around to doing it. Pioneer have always been reliable for their media drives and I have always been a fond lover of them even when I had my CD writer drive back in the good old days, what are they you ask lol.
This DVD writer was and still is very good for doing my own personal backups and to backup photo discs and home videos. Used with Nero6 and 4x or 8x RITEK G05 purple dye discs this drive works great!
Ideally I would really like the LG 16X Dual Layer DVD+RW writer as this packs loads of features and seems a great price too. Not only does it do the newer dual layer discs writing at 16x none the less, it also burns RAM disc formats and appears to have excellent reviews. This with a purchase of the new release of Nero 7 Premium will make a nice combination.
